It is not possible to rule out small fines due to violations of regulations (e.g. in the transport of dangerous goods) and short-term exceedances of wastewater or emission limits without sanction. Corresponding countermeasures have been taken. Where breaches involve reporting obligations to the authorities, these obligations will be fulfilled. GRI 2-27, GRI 307-1 Waste figures and transport of waste The operation of production facilities and buildings is always associated with the generation of waste. For this reason, we have been striving at all of our locations for many years to avoid waste or – where this is not possible – to favorably recycle it. For us, the legal regulations applicable at the respective location are always fundamental. Over the past four years, our locations around the world generated an average of 12,226 metric tons of waste per year. Compared to 2022, the volume of waste in 2023 fell by 3.1 percent. About 84 percent was nonhazardous waste and about 16 percent hazardous waste. The recycling/reutilization rate across all waste categories is 93 percent. GRI 306-1, GRI 306-3, GRI 306-4 This high level was achieved by a large number of Groupwide and local measures, such as reusable packaging, low-waste manufacturing processes, sorted and process-related waste collection, and measures to promote the environmental awareness of the workforce. An internally award-winning measure was implemented at the production site in Scharnhausen in 2023. In the past, a larger quantity of hazardous cleaning agents was used for cleaning as part of maintenance work. By purchasing a cleaning station that uses a water-based biological cleaner, it was possible to avoid the use of hazardous substances and thus reduce the amount of hazardous waste. In order to be able to achieve further improvements in the future, an international workshop was held in 2023 with all environmental managers in the global production network. A common global waste standard was drawn up, which is to be implemented successively at all sites in 2024. At all locations, we collect waste and make it available for collection. The small amount of waste that cannot be recycled, thermally recovered, composted, or incinerated is sent to landfills at local waste disposal facilities. Our waste is only disposed of by qualified waste disposal companies. We do not export or import waste.
