At 31 percent and 30 percent, respectively, sanitary installations and production accounted for the largest share of total water consumption. The remainder is distributed between cooling with evaporative cooling systems (21 percent) and some subordinate processes such as the irrigation of green areas and the operation of the canteen. Savings were achieved in all areas but particularly in sanitary facilities. However, this must also be seen in the context of a decrease in the number of employees. Water consumption was reduced at the majority of plants. GRI 303-5 Measures are being implemented in all areas to continuously reduce consumption. Our own buildings are fully equipped with water-saving fittings. Where possible, we optimize the production processes that generate wastewater and try to repurpose wastewater. In 2021, an evaporative refrigeration system was replaced by a hybrid cooler with minimal water consumption as part of the renovation of the cooling system at the company headquarters. This saves between 3,000 and 4,000 cubic meters of drinking water annually. No further noteworthy water-saving measures could be identified or implemented in the current reporting year. The figure on the right shows water withdrawal by source for the years 2021 to 2023. Nearly 98 percent of the water demand is covered by the public water supply. We obtain just over two percent of our water requirements from our own groundwater wells, which are used exclusively to irrigate the green spaces. GRI 303-1, GRI 303-3 Wastewater Polluted wastewater is only discharged into the public sewage system. Our production wastewater is treated for process-specific pollutants before discharge. We hold the necessary permits for all treatment plants and monitor the treatment and pollutant parameters. With the exception of unpolluted rainwater, we do not discharge any wastewater into natural bodies of water or groundwater. The figure on the right also shows the water discharge by quality and destination for the years 2021 to 2023. The development and distribution for the categories is explained by the type of water use described above. GRI 303-1, GRI 303-4 56 57 1. Blue World 2. Strategy and Management 3.
