Environmentally friendly expertise – green skills – as well as skills related to the digital transformation will be relevant for all professions in the future. This is already changing the demands placed on dual training. Existing skilled occupations and courses of study are changing, and new skilled occupations and courses of study are emerging with these focal points. Learning is also changing. Whereas in the past the focus was on professional skills, today the ability to acquire new knowledge is increasingly coming to the fore. Extended and new vocational jobs and courses of study In terms of training at Festo, existing vocational jobs and courses of study have been adapted. This way, trainees and students learn how to integrate sustainable practices into their daily work. This may include, for example, reducing energy and resource consumption, promoting recycling, or taking social aspects into account in the supply chain. Existing dual study programs are also changing. One example is the dual degree program in electrical engineering, which is now called Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. New training content has been developed that is geared toward combining digitization and sustainability. For example, students in technical fields can learn how to develop energy-efficient systems, use renewable energies, and increase data and information security. In commercial areas, trainees can learn how work processes can be simplified digitally or how data as well as existing work, business, and value-creation processes can be analyzed and digitally developed. The IT Specialist and Digitization Management Clerk apprenticeships were offered for the first time in 2023. The apprenticeship Immersive Media Designer is already planned for 2024. Investment in training In Germany, investments in our training totaled approximately 9.9 million euros in 2021, 9.4 million euros in 2022, and 9.5 million euros in 2023. GRI 404-1 Preparing trainees and students to seize the opportunities offered by digitization without losing sight of the company’s sustainability goals is becoming increasingly important. Apprentices worldwide The table below shows the number of trainees worldwide from 2021 to 2023. The declining numbers of apprentices in the various countries can be attributed to fluctuations in demand (including changes in job profiles). Integrative STEM education: Enthusiastic for Technology Festo provides support with a wide range of offers relating to STEM education in preschool as well as in primary and secondary schools. The aim of the Enthusiastic for Technology project is to spark interest in the natural sciences and technology at an early stage. In 2023, a total of 49 apprentices took part in the program on six Saturday mornings at the Festo Learning Center in Rohrbach (Germany). Here, 22 girls and 27 boys created a pinball machine as part of a group project.
